Andreas Spering conducts German Premiere of Opera semiseria: Fausto

Goethe’s famous tragedy has inspired numerous composers, including the now unknown Frenchwoman Louise Bertin, who at the age of 26 presented the first Faust opera in Italian on the French stage. Andreas Spering leading the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra presents the German premiere of FAUSTO on 27 January 2024 at Aalto Musiktheater Essen.

Berlioz described his contemporary Bertin as one of the “most intelligent and capable women of our time.” The opera, which has hardly been heard in France since 1831, will be staged in Essen by Tatjana Gürbaca.
